The increasing importance of Genomic Surveillance
Genomic surveillance is tracking transmission, contact tracing, and mutations in infectious diseases. One of the key factors in combating covid 19 was continuous genomic surveillance. A quick trend report reflects an understanding of this concept by the larger public, which was once understood only in public health circles. Global genomic surveillance strategies have been launched by CDC and WHO with more funding going towards tracking public health emergencies.
